When is Halloween 2023? Halloween is a fun and spooky festival celebrated on October 31st. People dress up in costumes, like ghosts, witches, and superheroes, and go trick-or-treating, which means they visit houses to get candy. It is also a time for spooky decorations, like pumpkins with faces carved in them, and telling scary stories. Halloween is all about having a good time and getting a little scared in a playful way.
Halloween is celebrated every year on October 31, the day before All Hallows’ Day. This special day got its name from “All Hallows’ Eve,” which was later shortened to “Halloween.”
History of Halloween
Halloween has a long and interesting history. It started over 2,000 years ago with a Celtic festival called Samhain. This festival marked the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter. People believed that on the night of October 31st, the boundary between the living and the dead became thin, and ghosts could come back to Earth.
To protect themselves, the Celts lit bonfires and dressed in costumes made of animal skins. They thought these costumes would scare away the ghosts. When the Romans conquered the Celts, their traditions mixed with Samhain, creating new celebrations.
In the 8th century, the Christian church made November 1st All Saints’ Day to honor saints. The night before, known as All Hallows’ Eve, became Halloween. Over time, Halloween traditions spread to different parts of the world, and it evolved into the holiday we know today.

Halloween Games and activities
Wind-Up Chomping Teeth Race: This game is a blast for all ages, but the little ones absolutely adore it. Just set up a starting line and a finish line, line up the kids next to their wind-up chomping teeth, and let the race begin! Beforehand, make sure to test the distance so it’s fair for everyone.
Spider Web Obstacle Course: To create an exciting obstacle course, use a roll of white streamers and tape them from one wall to another in a narrow hallway or small area. Attach plastic spiders to the streamers and add some fake spider webbing to the mix. The challenge is to make it through the course without tearing the streamers, and you can even set a time limit for added excitement.
Spider in the Haystack: Take a large plastic tub or bin and fill it with hay, Easter grass, or popcorn. Hide plastic spiders in there (or you can use sticky eyeballs or plastic skeletons). Kids can stick their hands in the hay and dig out the hidden prizes, including candy for some sweet motivation.
Tootsie Roll Brain: Get a container and fill it with pumpkin goo and seeds. Bury tootsie rolls in there, adding more as you go along. Make sure to have baby wipes on hand for messy fingers during this activity.
Name That Monster: This is a fantastic icebreaker game. Everyone wears vampire teeth, and famous monster names are taped to their backs. The fun part is asking yes or no questions to guess which monster they are. It’s a howling good time!
